Planning Meeting

I think we all should meet sometime outside of class before November 29 to start putting the details of our presentation together. I was looking at the schedule and November 29 (the next in class time we have to work together) looks like it could fill up quickly between the first group's presentation and work time on another small group project that hasn't been introduced yet. I'm free both before and after class on Tuesdays.

Lesson Activity Idea--mini lecture

Provide overviews of the book and key concepts of the book. There will be some summary provided of each chapter other than 2 or 3. We will continue to work on this collaboratively--possibly with a google presentation. We would also like to use the visual on p. 6 to guide the class through the basic concept of the book.

Lesson Activity #3

Using Appendix C we will ask our classmates to analyze teacher language by presenting the table with the right side blank. We would ask them to do the quick analysis of the language and then share what our author would say. Add ideas here!

Lesson Activity Ideas #2

Using Appendix B (Four Students) we would ask the class to jigsaw--one student each for four groups. Our classmates would read one case study of a student and use the extension questions on p.74 to look at what kind of language is being used in the classroom. Then, they would share and we would challenge to discover which students were in the same classroom. Add other ideas or clarifications here!

Lesson Activity Idea #1--Anticipatory Set

What ideas do we have in creating some sort of anticipatory set for the lesson? Some early suggestions were to have some phrases that the other students in the class could work on "translating" into phrases that emphasize more self-agency or look at the difference between a set of different phrases.

Passages for others to read

As we discussed today, we are thinking that ch. 2 (Noticing and Naming) and 3 (Identity)would be the set of reading we would like the others in the class to read before our lesson. Jackie and Chelsea, how does that sound?

Chapter Highlights

We hope to use this thread as a way to record highlights from chapters that we will want to include in our lesson/presentation. Record any quotations, concepts, or examples.
